Colorado’s First Duty Is to Its Citizens

The first responsibility of government is simple: protect its people.

As Governor, my oath will be to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Colorado — and that means my first duty is to the citizens of Colorado, not political agendas, not special interests, and not unlawful activity.

Public safety is not negotiable.

Colorado families deserve:
✔️ Safe neighborhoods
✔️ Enforcement of the rule of law
✔️ Accountability in our justice system
✔️ Responsible use of taxpayer dollars

Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility. But state leadership determines whether Colorado prioritizes its own citizens when it comes to public safety, benefits, and resource allocation.

We must stand for the right way to become legal in the United States and in Colorado. There is a lawful process to live and work here. That process protects fairness, national security, and the integrity of our system. We should encourage legal immigration — and reject policies that reward illegal activity.

We can no longer allow Colorado taxpayer dollars to be used in ways that undermine the rule of law. Those funds belong to Colorado families. They should support public safety, education, infrastructure, and services for lawful residents.

There is only one way to end this situation — and that is for elected officials, chosen by the citizens of Colorado, to come together and govern the right way.

This is not a left-wing issue.
This is not a right-wing issue.
This is a Colorado issue.

The solution is bipartisan leadership that:

• Ends sanctuary-style policies that restrict lawful cooperation
• Reviews and reforms funding structures to ensure taxpayer dollars prioritize lawful residents
• Returns misallocated funds back to Colorado’s general fund where appropriate
• Advances legislation that clarifies state policy and restores accountability
• Ensures law enforcement has clear guidelines to cooperate with federal authorities within constitutional limits

We must work together — Republicans, Democrats, and Independents — to create lawful, constitutional solutions that protect communities while respecting due process and human dignity.

Colorado deserves leadership that puts citizens first, follows the law, and restores unity instead of division.

We must protect Coloradans first.
